What is this, a scratchpost staircase for cats?

What climbing this staircase might look like:

As someone who likes to skip stairs when walking up them, I find these incredibly problematic.

Exactly.

As someone who has fallen down the stairs in every house I’ve lived in, that looks more painful than normal stairs.

I’m left handed, so I usually lead up steps with my right foot. I’d be fucked.

That is staggering!

I’m left handed as well, and I never thought about which foot I start with. I do kick with my right leg, though, and I bat and hold a hockey stick right handed. I’m certain that’s only because I learned from right-handed kids.

Honestly skipping every other step looks like the only way these could even work to me.

That looks like something I’d build my cat!

You just need to take it one step at a time.

Kinja'd!!!3

Also, there’s no room to turn around halfway because you suddenly remembered something. Nor can you use both feet on one step at a time because your joints and back aren’t what they used to be . This has “fuck the elderly” written all over it.

This is a less-than-elegant solution to a problem that nobody was having. YOUR RIGHT FOOT SHALL GO HERE AND YOUR LEFT FOOT SHALL GO HERE

I wonder what the link is between hands and feet. I’m right-handed, but I usually use my right foot as well, with the notable exception of kicking on a skateboard or scooter. I suppose that’s because I prefer to stand on my right foot, maybe? I dunno. It just feels unnatural not to kick with my left foot.

I like the concept, but I hate the execution. It doesn’t match anything, especially the carpet. If it was straight, diagonal lines (each step was a triangle that tucked under the above step) and they were made of either glass, aluminum, or anything else solid-colored, I would like them.

So much why?

Also I'm pretty sure that's not code.

I was wrong...

Also, this would work, but I suspect this staircase is very steep.

drunk me and those stairs would not get along.

I’m guessing someone has a pet that is afraid of steep inclines, so this lets them go side to side on each step, instead of tumbling forward.

And possibly the owner has the same fear, and it allows them to put two feet on each step as they make their way up/down.

Noted: the diaper-looking pad at the bottom of the step.

(this is all I got!)
